Bulbs, Catkins & Lingams

Natural form is a never-ending source of inspiration. As artist and gardener, I am fascinated by the beautiful shapes of Fall bulbs, all hiding promises of the next Spring, as well as the ripe bursting shapes of plants going to seed, going to harvest. My Catkins are inspired by some of Natures most primitive buds on branches, like Pussy Willows; surviving winter inside protective rough sheaths, they burst open with early Spring revealing fragile, very temporal beauty.

The Lingam shape (in India) represents the power of Shiva, Lord of Creation. Tradition holds that a Shiva Lingam stone contains a microscopic version of the universe, where the form represents the male energy of knowledge and the markings represent the female energy of wisdom. Lingams are said to bring balance and harmony because of the mixture of male and female energies.
